Hazel Herbst

Associate consultant - climate change & carbon markets

Hazel earned an MSc in Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy from the University College of Dublin and Justus-Liebig University Giessen, and a BA in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin. Throughout her studies, Hazel gained a comprehensive understanding of the complexities occurring in socio-ecological systems and the necessity of advanced scientific research for sustainable measurements and modelling. Some academic projects of interest include a spatiotemporal analysis into the soil derived GHG dynamics of native Irish woodlands, a case-based study looking into the societal dimensions of restoration and recommending action for their complex integration, as well as field work comparing the above ground biomass and carbon sequestration potential amongst an agroforestry site and water manipulation experiments at an F.A.C.E facility.

Previously, Hazel gained experience working with a global health facility in Barcelona, whose mission is to address the challenges facing global health and close the gaps in health disparities across the world. Hazel’s work and studies have allowed her to live and travel in several European countries, briefly visiting Kenya to work with underprivileged school children.

At Hamerkop, Hazel will be supporting a range of projects, including some specific research area on CAMERR and on the REDD+ project in Zambia.
