Hamerkop Climate Impacts (HCI) is a newly set-up climate change, climate finance and energy access consultancy registered in London and operating worldwide without specific office locations.
We help our client design, implement, manage and monitor projects and activities that deliver measurable social and environmental impacts and are eligible to climate finance mechanisms. Our strength lies in being able to make the link between financing organisations and projects throughout the world. We work with small and medium-sized organisations in the private, public and third sectors. Our main work streams are climate projects certification, development and management of REDD+ projects and policies, advisory to energy access projects and technical support to international donors for climate finance related programmes and assessments in developing countries.

Hamerkop’s aims is to rapidly expand access to climate finance to enable climate change mitigation and adaption actions by supporting NGOs, governmental and international development organisations as well as the private sector. Reporting to the Director, you will be supporting him in all its activities and the role will entail at least the following:
Be in charge of delivering or supporting the delivery of assignments: emission reduction projects certification to Gold Standard or Clean Development Mechanism; REDD+ projects sourcing and policy development; climate finance assignments for NGOs (e.g. development of mapping, guidebooks) and climate change mitigation and adaptation assignments for bilateral or international agencies;
Supporting business development: identification of opportunities; networking; technical and commercial proposal drafting; concept note drafting; identification of and liaising with partners; sourcing of experts; and follow-up with prospects;
External relationships will be an important part of the role, with a requirement to liaise with project teams, clients, and representatives from partner organisations;
Keeping abreast of climate change policy and finance development (e.g. COPs, national and international legislation, etc.);
Support business development strategy formulation and implementation; and
Promote Hamerkop brand and credibility to external stakeholders through blog content creation and sharing.
Candidate desired skills and knowledge
The ideal candidate will have 2 to 3 years’ experience within carbon and sustainability services.
Be able to work autonomously and independently is one of the most important requirement;
Knowledge of climate change and energy access issues gained through a degree or in a previous experience in a related subject;
Knowledge of corporate and project-level accounting frameworks and methods (e.g. CDM methodologies, ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, etc.);
Understanding of full prospecting-to-delivery business cycle;
Advanced knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
Spoken and written fluency in English. Spoken and written fluency in French would be an advantage;
Ability to manage multiple ongoing assignments simultaneously;
Attention to details and ability to produce well-presented, error-free results and reports;
Flexibility, willingness and ability to travel internationally on assignments;
Some experience of working on client engagements, preferably demonstrated through actual client engagements, placements or internships; and
Post-graduate qualification in engineering or forestry would be an advantage.
Term of employment
This is a full-time and permanent position.

Location of position
The role will mostly be home-based (with the possibility to find a co-working space) and the successful applicant may be required to travel internationally on assignments or to meet with team and partners.
The candidate would preferably be based in UK at least 6 months per year.
We are open to consider exceptional candidates based somewhere else in Europe.
